Neuhaus was suddenly struck with a life-threatening illness that could have killed him in days. He recovered and got to do what many others in that situation do not have the opportunity to do: record what he was thinking about as he faced imminent death. Neuhaus was a Catholic priest (who has since experienced what he nearly experienced before writing this book, i.e., he has died), but he does not mince words about the fear and the pain of uncertainty that he experienced. Yet ultimately, he did find the peace in the face of his fear. It’s book anyone who is expecting to die should read.
